The Great Redemption of a Nuclear Iran

Every week, my wife and I hike up Givat-HaMoreh. It’s part of Afula and one of the most beautiful mountains in the country. It’s long—well over 6 kilometers (3.5 miles). It’s all forest; trees line the paths and cover the mountain.

And Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, arose early, and all the people that were with him, and they encamped beside Ein- Harod, and the camp of Midian was on the north side of him by Givat-HaMoreh, in the valley. (Judges 7:1)

Why did Gideon camp at Ein-Harod? To do so would lead to total disaster!

Givat-HaMoreh could easily sustain and camouflage the 130,000 Midianite, Edomite, Amalekite, and Ishmaelite troops stationed there. At any point on this behemoth of a mountain, you could see Ein Harod.

Givat-HaMoreh was the high ground – it’s taller than Masada! Ein Harod is a very exposed, low ground. It’s so low there’s a stream where the water collects. You can’t hide any advance from there because the path from Ein-Harod to Givat-HaMoreh is over 10 miles of open fields!

You can sit at almost any point on the southern side of Givat-HaMoreh and see Gideon’s army coming – hours before they had to trudge up the mountain just to engage in battle.

To attack from Ein Harod isn’t strategy, it’s suicide!

Gideon had 22,000 men at his command. Maybe there was some sort of convention to what he was planning.

And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people that are with you are too numerous for Me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel vaunt themselves against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’ (Judges 7:2)

Hashem commanded Gidon to attack, in plain sight of the enemy, with only 300 soldiers. He didn’t tell Gidon to choose the fiercest warriors. He didn’t tell him to use the most experienced fighters.

Hashem commanded Gidon to attack with men based on their level of faith in Him.

Three hundred men marching across open fields for 10 miles in hopes of climbing a massive mountain to take on over 130,000 soldiers was an impossible mission. As if it wasn’t hopeless enough — Gidon split his forces – into three parts!

Hashem made it clear that only at the point when a battle was beyond any hope of victory, would He come and save us so we would thank Him — and only Him — for our salvation.

We saw the same in 1948.

We saw the same on the eve of the Six Day War in 1967.

We didn’t win. Hashem fought for us.

The Sanctification of Iranian Nukes

If Gidon had used cunning military tactics to advance 22,000 troops to take on 130,000, it would have been a very impressive, but not unheard-of victory. Armies have been outnumbered 6 to 1 before and triumphed. Armies have been outnumbered 10 to 1 and prevailed.

But outnumbered 433 to 1?

By fighting with only 300 men, even someone devoid of any spiritual perception would concede that this is the Hand of Hashem.  The enemy had to be so overwhelming, the situation so hopeless, that nobody could deny this was God’s handiwork.

We see it happening today.

Even as the IDF’s Iron Dome, and soon-to-be-deployed Iron Beam, fires high-tech laser beams at enemy missiles, thousands of Israelis are returning to God.  They don’t mention it in the media, but there are a lot more Jews wearing a kippa and tzitzit than ever, even in the heart of Tel Aviv. They know the truth:

It’s Hashem, not the IDF.

If the Lord will not guard a city, its soldiers guard in vain. (Psalms 127:1)

It’s a great step forward in the evolution of the Children of Israel in the State of Israel, but it’s nothing compared to the hopeless situation that might come next:

  • Iran would get the nuclear bomb and detonate it somewhere on an island in the Indian Ocean and terrify the world.
  • They would build an arsenal of 20 nuclear missiles and point them all at Israel.
  • They would blackmail the nations of the world into harassing us to no end in return for not pointing their nukes at New York, London, or Paris. The world will tremble.

The situation could deteriorate to the point that it might look as if Iran is loaded with a massive army of 130,000 warriors while we field a platoon of 300 men.

That’s when the victory will be so miraculous that even Yair Lapid will put on tzitzit.

The world will see that Hashem is the Father of Israel and He neither slumbers nor sleeps.

  • They will beg us to rebuild our Temple.
  • They will beg us to return to God.
  • They will beg us to reconquer and purify our ancient and eternal Land.

The nations, devoid of any spiritual perception, will see clearly Who saved Israel. Seeing Hashem’s salvation of His nation through His open miracles, they – and we – will fulfill the words we recite at the conclusion of every prayer:

And the Lord shall be King over all the earth;
on that day shall the Lord be One, and His Name One.  (Zechariah 14:9)
